Edgerrin James football camp launches football season in Immokalee...and elsewhere!
"He's an inspiration for this town," Immokalee H.S. sophomore Jimmy Victorin told the Fort Myers News-Press. "He gives us hope for the future."
The Edge, as he's sometimes called, gives hope for sure but so much more, too, to Immokalee and its children. He's a role model and benefactor, donating much of his time and money to benefit Immokalee's youth.
James' 2010 football camp drew close to 1,000 kids Monday and plenty of reporters and photographers to document the day.
NFL running back Ernest Graham was there, as was soon-to-be-superstar and Edge cousin, Javarris James, and legendary sports agent Drew Rosehaus.
The Naples Daily News covered it with a live blog, photos and video.
The Fort Myers News-Press wrote about it....and wrote more about it.
And from Saturday's Naples Daily News', "Stars & Spurs, Dollars & Coconuts," column:
Huddling up for kids
A starfish to tough guys with big hearts in Immokalee.
We refer to Edgerrin James and his cousin Javarris James, who hosted a clinic for small-fry football stars of tomorrow who aspire to follow in the Jameses’ footsteps. Both went on to play ball at the University of Miami after graduating from Immokalee High. Edgerrin James had a fine National Football League career, and Javarris James is about to try that.
The Jameses also had some help at the Immokalee clinic from NFL and UM stars. That’s what friends are for.
