Immokalee set to become construction capital in SW Florida!
In a region where the economy is all but stagnant, Immokalee has something of a building boom just around the corner.
Four major construction projects will get underway in the coming months - totaling just over $10 million in jobs & building materials.
A public meeting is set for Wednesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss the $3.5 million storm water project planned by the Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). The meeting will be held at Southwest Florida Works (the Immokalee One-Stop Shop), 750 South 5th Street.
In addition to the storm water system construction project, the Immokalee Sewer & Water District is planning a multi-million dollar expansion of its system in the coming year.
The State of Florida Department of Agriculture awarded two weeks ago a contract for the reconstruction of the state-owned Immokalee Farmers Market, heavily damaged by Hurricane Wilma just over five years ago. The Naples firm of Deangelis Diamond was the low bidder on that $3.5 million project.
The Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain pledged last week $1 million to help build the Immokalee CRA's 9th Street Plaza, or zocalo, at the corner of Main Street and 9th Street. Construction of that major piece of downtown redevelopment will begin in April.
While the rest of the region continues to struggle, Immokalee is once again proving why it is quickly becoming "Florida's 21st Century."
