Confirmed: Immokalee CRA offices will move to “One Stop Shop.”

Just as it was reported here in May, the Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will relocate its headquarters in July.

The CRA, now with a reduced staff of three, will take up residence in the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Center, 750 5th Street South, a building known to most Immokaleans as the "One Stop Shop" because it houses a variety of governmental and quasi-governmental agencies and offices.

Collier County Commissioners, sitting as the CRA board of directors, approved the move in May. It was held up temporarily earlier this month when Commissioner Tom Henning, who represents Golden Gate on the county lawmaking panel, suggested instead moving the CRA offices to the Immokalee Regional Airport. In a suggestion aimed at cost-cutting, Henning suggested the CRA staff could help managing some of the functions at the airport in addition of its dutes of community redevelopment.

After removing the idea from the county's commission's agenda on June 11, Henning withdrew the suggestion completely earlier this week, according to CRA Interim Executive Director Bradley Muckel, who told the CRA's citizens advisory committee June 19 the staff will be in the Workforce Development Center offices by the first of July.

Collier Commission Tim Nance, who represents Immokalee and Eastern Collier County on the board of commissioners, said Wednesday he believes the One Stop Shop to be the best place for the CRA staff and agreed with his fellow lawmaker's change of heart.

For nearly three years, the CRA has occupied office space at 1320 North 15th Street (S.R. 29), just north of Lake Trafford Road. The building is the former headquarters of the Barron Collier Corporation. But with a reduced staff and independence of the Immokalee Business Development Center, the CRA doesn't need as much space as it once did. The business development center will be in its new headquarters at Hodges University's Immokalee campus by July.
